Fear

A city that’s disappearing before our eyes. What are

we left with? Are we going to have to construct an imaginary city to house our memories because when you love something every time a bit of it goes, you lose a piece of yourself. It’s horrible to fear the place that you once loved, and to see a street corner you knew so well and be afraid of its shadow and see familiar steps and not be able to climb them. I never understood how people live in fear, women afraid to walk home alone, darkness, night, people afraid of people. I always believed that fear belonged to other people…weaker people. It never touched me and then it did and when it touches you, you know it’s been there all along waiting beneath the surfaces of everything you loved and your skin craws and your heart sickens and you look at the person you were once walking down that street with and you wonder, will you ever be here again.

Dreams

The only place that we are truly free is in our dreams. we can cast off the shackles of our daily lives, we can go anywhere we want to go. We can be any version of ourselves that we want to be. Any school kid can tell you that there is one thing you can’t do in your dreams…you can’t die if you actually die in your dream you’ll die in real life. Though we laugh at that idea but, I wonder sometimes, can we ever be absolutely sure that were wrong? If your dream does kill you, you’re not around to talk about it right? Call it a heart attack or whatever, most say you die in your sleep. We’ll never know what will actually happen… Your worst nightmare finally caught up with you.
